Just using these tactics alone won't always push you to the top rankings. This is where doing some clever research comes in handy. I used to use Yahoo's site explorer to try and uncover where my competition was getting their links but since I started using Link Assistant and SEO Spyglass I've been uncovering a detailed blueprint of exactly where I should build my links.
Some people even question the ethics of using this software because it can truly give you a advantage on any of your competitors, but isn't that what business is all about. You might be thinking to yourself that this isn't exactly the most creative method of building links but since your competition probably isn't doing the same, you actually are being creative in a sense. The other side of things is that I can almost guarantee that your competition wouldn't hesitate to gather the same info on your site and SEO work.
Granted this isn't the right logic for making ethical decisions in most cases but in this case it is the very nature of the SEO field. Before I had access to this software I would spend hours trying to find out where my competition was getting their most valuable links and now I can spend my time acquiring links from the same places along with others. So if you are about to start a link building campaign than you might want to consider giving link assistant a try and also make sure you spend a good amount of time planning your strategy. Some of the most successful campaigns I've ever implemented had a solid framework down before I did anything.
I would highly recommend taking a couple hours to outline your strategy on paper before you begin. That way you won't have spend time thinking about you plan and you can just focus on implementing it. You should do this when you are in a good mental state and you can get your creative side flowing. Try to immerse yourself in the niche you are working on and think of every possible place that you can get a link. Once you have everything written and planned out you will be one step closer to pushing your site to the top of the rankings.
Now get your plan laid out and start building those links. Good Luck!
